Stelrad radiators adorn new Hall for Cornwall

Stelrad radiators have been selected for inclusion in a major refurbishment project in the far South-West of the UK.

Cornwall’s premier entertainment space – the Hall for Cornwall in the centre of Truro – has undergone a major programme of refurbishment work at a cost of in excess of £20 million that involves the building of a new auditorium in the centre of the complex that will be called the Cornwall Playhouse. It’s a venue that has a number of historic memories not least the fact it was the venue for the first ever live concert by rock band Queen – on 27^th June 1970!

Part of the venue refurbishment included an upgraded heating system, which now includes 47 Stelrad Planar flat fronted radiators – both vertical and horizontal and in varying sizes, in the offices, changing rooms, and back of house and front of house common areas. A number of the company’s leading LST (Low Surface Temperature) radiators have also been installed in the toilets – to share heat across the newly upgraded facilities.

The radiators were installed by Totus Engineering Limited, the leading mechanical, electrical and plumbing specialist in the South-West, with offices in Bodmin, Exeter and Plymouth, for the main contractor for the project – Keir.

“We’re pleased to see our radiators selected for this flagship project for the leading entertainment space in Cornwall,” says Stelrad’s Chris Harvey. “This project highlights the benefits of our efficient Planar radiators and ‘safe to touch’ Low Surface Temperature radiators. The majority of our radiators are installed in residential settings – in new build homes and as replacement radiators in existing homes. Projects like this one show how important radiators can be in commercial properties – in this case an entertainment space but equally important in offices, hospitals and other health care settings and in industrial buildings too.”

As well as showcasing Stelrad’s radiator options the Hall for Cornwall highlights the use of coloured radiators as well as the standard white radiators that we mostly see. Some of the flat fronted Planar radiators have been supplied in a brown paint finish to match décor in part of the building. The first thing you notice as you walk around the impressive refurbished building is the huge amount of open stone finish walling there is – common in buildings in Cornwall. This lends itself to the use of coloured radiators as well as the white ones – to add to the overall décor effects.
