Heating Installer Awards winner Dan incorporates red column in his own boiler room

Dan Davies is an award-winning heating engineer from Lampeter in southwest Wales, having been the Welsh Regional Winner in the Heating Installer Awards in both 2025 and 2026. He is renowned for being a quality installer and for using only the best products in his day-to-day work.

For the past eighteen months, in his spare time, when he’s not grafting for his customer base, Dan has been building a boiler room in his own home, with his customary attention to detail, ensuring that the finished project meets his own very high standards.

So, it was no great surprise when he decided he wanted to incorporate one of his favourite Stelrad Column radiators in the boiler room, and in vibrant flame red (RAL3000), to make a statement as well as to provide the comfort heating levels he wanted in the room.

“I’ve been really impressed with Stelrad products,” says Dan. “I was fortunate enough to tour the factory last year, and it was incredible to see the full process — from raw materials, right through to manufacture, testing, painting, packaging and dispatch. The scale of it is genuinely mind-blowing and gives you real confidence in the quality of what you’re installing.

“I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and that’s definitely the case here. We’ve used cheaper radiators in the past, and the difference in quality is clear to see — Stelrad products are far superior in both build and finish.”

He says the work involved in building his boiler room has been a real labour of love, fitting it in around a busy workload: “I’ve been very particular about the products used, and the Stelrad radiator was an easy choice — it’s something I take a lot of pride in and often refer to as ‘my baby’!

“We recently had a meter engineer out to remove our gas meter as part of our transition to a renewable home, and even he was blown away by the attention to detail — he was taking photos to show his colleagues. He especially loved how the Stelrad column radiator glows when the space heating is active, which really stood out.”

Dan’s wife Emily is equally impressed with the end product of Dan’s hard work and adds: “Daniel has put a huge amount of thought into every detail, and the Stelrad radiator really stands out — both in quality and appearance. It’s been great to see everything come together so well — even visitors can’t help but notice it.”

Lexi Kelly is Stelrad’s Marketing Coordinator and has been heavily involved in the Heating Installer Awards for many years – with Stelrad as a major sponsor of the awards which are announced each year at Installer Live at the NEC in Birmingham; “We’ve got to know Dan well over the past couple of year’s and we were delighted to be able to help him with the crowning glory of his boiler room project. It is a very striking use of one of our products and the glow that comes on automatically when the space heating is active brings a whole new focus to how a radiator can be an intrinsic part of the décor, rather than simply a heating appliance!”
