Stelrad EcoVadis rating on the move

The EcoVadis Platform is a global platform designed to enable companies to manage their ESG – environmental, social, governance risks and drive impacts by guiding the sustainability of companies and supply chains. It’s an area of our business managed by Group Sustainability Manager Andy Dent.

Companies can assess themselves to gain insight in where performance can be improved. They can also request that suppliers are assessed to manage risks within the supply chain.

To date EcoVadis has rated more than 130,000 companies across more than 180 countries and 220 industries, so this is a comprehensive platform with huge credibility.

Stelrad obtained its original assessment in 2021, at the time driven by customer requests – St Gobain and Screwfix both use EcoVadis to assess their suppliers. The company’s score was 62/100 – a position higher than or equal to 86% of all assessed companies. In 2023 this figure rose to 69/100. This year the figure moved up 72/100.

Feedback shows that Stelrad has seen improvements in all areas it was judged on, with the biggest improvement seen in sustainable procurement – managing and assessing our supply chain and ensuring that as a business we make ethical choices about what we buy and from who – for example with regard to modern slavery issues.

Broadly speaking it’s clear that as a business our strengths are in environmental management, health and safety management, the strength and scope of our HR policies and our use of ISO certification.

Our main areas for further improvement are in our reporting of ESG data, information security and our actions related to modern slavery and anti-bribery. These are either areas where we don’t currently do much or where we are unable to evidence what we do.

“We have re-achieved the EcoVadis silver medal with an improvement in score and relative position,” says Andy Dent. “This is another important rating that as a business we need to invest time and effort in to see an annual improvement for companies we work with to see growing confidence in us a partner.”
