Scottish College students get Stelrad radiators to practice on

Stelrad Radiators has continued to offer support to colleges up and down the country that offer courses in heating and plumbing to train the next generation of plumbers and heating engineers.

The latest to benefit from a donation of radiators to be mounted and demounted in their training school is Glasgow Clyde College. Glasgow Clyde College is one of the largest Further Education providers in Scotland with over 500 full-time and part-time courses to choose from across its three campuses at Anniesland, Cardonald and Langside. The college offers a range of courses from pre-apprentice introductions to more specialised courses for those already working in the heating and plumbing sector looking to develop specific skill sets, with these being run at the Cardonald site.

Steven Greer is a lecturer in the department who approached Stelrad and requested any help that the company could provide to improve the quality of equipment that his pupils could work with to get a hands-on experience of working with quality products: “I spoke to Tom McGrory at Stelrad, and he kindly organised for a number of radiators to be delivered to our campus for students to work with during their courses. It’s really important that the students get to work with good quality radiators – its pretty depressing for them if they are constantly working with outdated products or ones that clearly show the signs of having been installed many times before by previous students on previous courses. Like all budgets, ours are stretched so it really makes a difference when we can benefit from the generosity of manufacturers like Stelrad to obtain modern equipment to work and train with.”

Tom McGrory was delighted to be able to be the link between the college and Stelrad: “Its important for us to be able to work alongside the colleges to help them bring through the new blood we need to see coming into the industry and we’re pleased to see the youngsters learning to work with our radiators from an early age.”
