Stelrad radiators bring warmth to Wood Wharf development

960 of Stelrad’s best selling compact radiators have been installed in a major new housing project at Wood Wharf to the east of Canary Wharf in London’s historic docklands area.

Wood Wharf is a 23 acres (9.3 ha) new-build mixed-use neighbourhood in London Docklands. It is immediately east of Canary Wharf on the northern quayside of the South Dock of West India Docks. It is partially completed, with several buildings still currently under construction.

Wood Wharf includes offices, high-rise and mid-rise residential buildings and retail space. When complete, it is expected to contain around 5 million square feet of space, including 2 million sq ft of office space, 3,330 residential homes, 9 acres (3.6 ha) of public spaces, and 380,000 sq ft of shops, restaurants, and amenities including a GP surgery, primary school and community centre.

The Stelrad radiators have been specified for buildings J4/5 of the Wood Wharf scheme, a high-rise social housing development providing 222 apartments – a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes – over 30 storeys with incredible views across London and the surrounding area and significant views up and down the River Thames. The source of the heat in the buildings comes from a district heating scheme  and the radiators offer quality comfort heating throughout these good-sized apartments.  Canary Wharf is now a complete and established business and residential area of London and Wood Wharf is the latest additional area that should be completed by the end of 2028.

J4/5 has been designed by Darling Associates as architects and built by MPG as main contractors and Briggs and Forrester as main M&E contractor on the building.

Carl Beck is Senior Project Manager with Briggs and Forrester on this project: “The Stelrad Compact radiators were specified for this project because of their ease of installation, availability and the ability to deliver them when we needed them rather than having them on site waiting to be installed. We have worked closely with Stelrad for many years as a business and have built a good working relationship with them.”

“As with most structures at Canary Wharf, this part of Wood Wharf is a substantial building in what will be pleasing surroundings with park areas and waterside walkways that will make for an attractive place to live and work,” says Stelrad’s Stuart Dixon. “Our Compact radiators will provide comfort heating for these good-sized apartments driven by the heat network in this area of the development. It’s a very impressive development – just the kind of place we like to see our radiators selected for up and down the country.”
