Stelrad’s Green Radiator Series installed alongside Ideal Logic Air heat pump

It’s official, radiators work well with heat pump driven renewable heating systems. They have to be sized properly to ensure they will provide the level of comfort heating that is needed by each individual home, but once sized properly, the heat pump will keep a home warm and cosy and supply the hot water needed for the family. One recent installation has proved the point and has taken advantage of Stelrad’s new Green Radiator series.  Stelrad customers can choose a Green Compact radiator range that contributes directly to a reduction in atmospheric CO₂ emissions today and accelerates decarbonisation in the future.

The steel utilised in the manufacture of these Green Compact radiators is XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel from ArcelorMittal, which is made in an electric arc furnace with high recycled content and 100% renewable electricity. Using this low-emissions steel results in a 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions per tonne of steel, compared with using the same product made via the conventional steelmaking process.

The joys of living in the countryside…

Living in the countryside has its perks – peaceful surroundings, long walks, and characterful properties. But for many homes off the gas grid, keeping warm can be tricky and expensive.

That was exactly the challenge for Ideal Heating’s Sales Director for One-Off and Key Accounts, Jonathan Dobek, whose rural property was previously heated by an oil-fired system.

“Oil boilers can get the job done, but the running costs, price fluctuations and storage requirements make them difficult to plan for,” says Jonathan. “We loved our home, but we wanted a more efficient, sustainable solution – and one that didn’t compromise the look or comfort of the property.”

Making the switch

Jonathan worked with installer Bee Warm to replace his ageing oil system with an 8kW Logic Air heat pump, supported by Stelrad low carbon-emission Green Compact radiators throughout the home.

Because Logic Air uses R32 refrigerant, it can be positioned closer to windows and doors, removing the clearance restrictions common with older systems. The compact design made it ideal for Jonathan’s traditional property, where preserving the building’s character was a top priority.

“We didn’t want to alter the property’s appearance, inside or out,” says Jonathan. “The installation was simple and clean, and the heat pump keeps the house perfectly warm. If anything, it’s harder to get out of bed in the morning now because it’s so cosy.”

The Logic Air provides reliable heating and hot water with lower running costs, reduced carbon emissions, and minimal maintenance – all backed by Ideal Heating’s 7-year homeowner warranty for extra peace of mind.

“I’ve put my money where my mouth is,” Jonathan adds. “As someone who works for Ideal, I knew the Logic Air would deliver – and it’s proved me right. It’s a quality product, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Radiators fit for the future

To complement the system, Stelrad’s Green Compact radiators were chosen for their performance, efficiency, and heat pump compatibility.

“This installation highlights the fact that when sized properly, radiators can work perfectly alongside heat pumps,” explains Sarah Baker, Marketing Communications Manager at Stelrad. “It confirms what recent research from Salford University’s Energy House project has shown – radiators remain the most cost-effective and flexible choice for modern heating systems, whether powered by gas or renewables.”

“We’re delighted to see our Green Compact radiators paired with the Ideal Logic Air,” she continues. “It’s a great example of how installers like Bee Warm are embracing future-ready heating technology without compromising comfort or efficiency.”

Stelrad believes that many of its customers are seeking ways of reducing their impact on the environment and will welcome these low carbon-emissions radiators and incorporate them into their projects in the months and years ahead.
