Stelrad Radiators helps Band of Builders project in Bishops Stortford

Stelrad Radiators has built an excellent reputation for its willingness to help charity projects up and down the country and one of the charities it has supported in the past is Band of Builders – a charity that brings together volunteer tradespeople and equipment manufacturers to help out people in the trades who are having a hard time.

The latest project that has benefitted from the donation of Stelrad Radiators is one in Bishops Stortford for a couple that have had more than their share of challenges in recent times. Mike and Christine found themselves with a home that needed a lot of work doing but which Mike, a retired builder was unable to complete himself after a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis and a heart issue. His wife has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s – and they were living in an unsafe caravan on the property with no prospect of getting back into their home. Eventually after trying his best, Mike had to reach out for help.

Band of Builders exists for exactly these circumstances and they decided to take on the project with the aim of getting Mike and Christine back into their home before Christmas. Amongst the manufacturers they approached for help was Stelrad and the leading radiator manufacturer agreed to supply the ten Compact radiators needed to share heat around the renovated home.

When the project began it was virtually a shell of a home. Mike had begun the work but run into problems soon afterwards. There was no roof on part of the house, no ceilings, parts of the floor were missing, bare brick walls, no plumbing or electrics and an unsafe staircase. The heating system needed replacing too which is where Stelrad’s help came in.

A team of volunteer builders started working on the house on 1^st November and in just 23 days had renovated the whole house giving Mike and Christine a beautiful new, safe and warm home to move into well in time for Christmas.
